Description

In this old black-and-white photo, a race car with the No. 25 on its side drives down the street. Tacoma has been a hot spot for racing. From 1914 to 1922, Tacoma Speedway, which was sometimes called the Pacific Speedway or Tacoma-Pacific Speedway, ran and was popular nationwide. It was a 2-mile oval track and considered to be second only to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The site later became an airport and then a naval supply depot during World War II and today it is the campus of Clover Park Technical College.
