Naturally, Pete Lovely is smiling for this picture. That's because he's sitting in his race car. Lovely was a longtime race enthusiast and stayed involved with car racing for over 50 years. Lovely first came to prominence when he teamed up to win his class in the 1958 Reims, a 12-hour sports car classic. In 1969-71, he drove in some Grands Prix races, diving his own Lotus 49B. In 1954, Lovely opened the Pete Lovely Volkswagen dealership and ran it for 34 years. He was born in Livingston, Montana, on April 11, 1926 and died May 15, 2011 in Tacoma.
