Tom Cross, Steve Orfanos, Jack Fabulich, John Rockway, John Heinrick and Doug McArthur – all are hall of fame inductees – are among the nine people who posed for this black-and-white photo taken at the Tacoma Boys Club award-dinner for the Jack Grader Memorial Award presented for the most inspirational basketball player in the Tacoma League. Standing in the back row from left to right are: Steve Orfanos, Pat Steele, Tom Cross, Don Danielson, Jack Fabulich, Doug McArthur. And seated L-R: John Rockway, Jane Grader, John Heinrick. Orfanso, a 1942 Lincoln High School graduate, didn't play sports in high school but oversaw sports in Tacoma and created opportunity for thousands of athletes to play sports over the years. Cross did it all in sports as he played, refereed and directed sports programs for 34 years. He refereed Division I basketball from 1948-64 and football from1 1948-73. McArthur was a longtime radio sports announcer, an athletic director for the Tacoma School district and then the University of Puget Sound from 1966-78. Fabulich is one of the most versatile athletes in Puyallup High School history. Rockway was an outstanding pitcher in fastpitch and a longtime coordinator and supporter of recreation sports. Cross, McArthur, Fabulich, Rockway, Heinrick and Orfanos have all been inducted into the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame.
