Original candid photo, Cheney Studs basketball players, their wives and others at a social gathering at the home of Ben Cheney. Shortly after this photo was taken, Marv Harshman left coaching at Pacific Lutheran College to coach at WSU.
The Cheney Studs were one of the top semi-pro teams on the West Coast attracting former All- America college players as former ABA/NBA players to their team. They traveled to Alaska, California, Montana, Oregon, Idaho, and throughout Washington in the 1950s playing the Harlem Clowns as well as in other exhibitions. Gate receipts helped compensate them for their time and Ben Cheney made up the difference.Lexicon
