Description

Stadium High School graduate Dori Kovanen photographed in 2005. Kovanen is believed to be the first women’s soccer player from Washington to get recruited and play for legendary North Carolina Tar Heels coach Anson Dorrance. Defender Dori Kovanen was a member of the North Carolina Tar Heels women’s soccer team that won the 1981 Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) national championship, the first of the school’s 22 national titles in the sport. Kovanen was a defender for the Tar Heels when UNC won the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) national championship in 1981, the first of 22 in AIAW and NCAA for the school in women’s soccer.
