Description

Steve Gervais made his name coaching football at Eatonville and Skyline High Schools but the Yakima native was a standout basketball and football player at Puyallup High School from 1969-71. Gervais was a member of the 1970-71 state 3A basketball championship team for the Vikings. Gervais went on to play football for four seasons at Oregon State University before beginning his coaching career at Eatonville in 1976. Gervais’ coaching record was an impressive 244-83 with six state titles to his credit. He won three state championships with the Cruisers in 1985, 1990 and 1992. He was named the league coach of the year 11 times and Seattle Times Coach of the Year three times. Gervais won three titles at Skyline in 2000, 2005 and 2007. Gervais was inducted into the Washington State Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2005, was named to the John Wooden Wall of Honor in 2006 for Professional Athletes Outreach, earned National Football Foundation Coach of the Year honors in 2005 and 2007 and was inducted into the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.
