Description

This portrait features the 1969-70 Puyallup High School boys basketball team, which won the Puget Sound League Southern Division title with a record of 15-1 and finished the regular season at 18-2. The Vikings went on to reach the regional round of the Class 4A state tournament that season at the University of Puget Sound. They beat Mercer Island, 63-60, then were eliminated by Aberdeen, 71-51, which went on to the Final Four played at the University of Washington. The season set the tone for the 1970-71 team that won the state title. Pictured here are (L-R): front row -- manager Terry Wiggins, head coach Rich Hammermaster, assistant coach Jim Clifton and manager John Anderson; back row -- Mike Takemura, Dick Dary, John Trageser, Dav Crouch, Doug Picha, Doug Weese, Arnie Jacobsen, Les Nash, Randy Dorn, Steve Gervais, Jeff Dusenberry, Steve Huber and Ramie Reno.
