Description

Harry McLaughlin receives a trophy in this undated photo from his career with Pacific Lutheran College, which ended in 1950. McLaughlin was inducted into the PLU Hall of Fame in 1994 following a career where he teamed with young coach Marv Harshman to turn the Gladiators into a solid program after returning to basketball competition following World War II. He led the team to a 24-7 record in his junior season. McLaughlin was an aggressive player known for attacking the rim and getting to the free-throw line in an era where hard-nosed play was not the norm. McLaughlin, who would go on to play for the Jewish barnstorming team House of David, was reportedly the first player Harshman ever saw dunk the basketball.
