Description

Pacific Luthern College Hall of Famer Harry McLaughlin was a force when the Gladiators restarted their basketball program following two years of dormancy during World War II. “High Harry,” completing a hook shot over a member of Western College here, was an ultra aggressive player for his era, and set the national college scoring record at 1,785 points in his time at the Parkland area school. He remains the program’s third leading lifetime scorer 78 years after he completed his eligibility and went on to a professional career that included time with the barnstorming team House of David. McLaughlin was inducted into the PLU Hall of Fame in 1994. Over 120 games for the Gladiators, McLaughlin averaged 14 points per game, with the high-water mark coming in his senior year when he averaged 17 ppg and led the team to a 19-8 record.
