In this black-and-white photo taken in 1965, George Henley sits in his 280 class hydroplane, Calypso, ready to begin racing. After graduating from Eatonville High School in 1954, Henley started his stellar boat racing career in 1955 racing outboards. His 20-year racing career was capped by winning back-to-back national championships while racing the famous PayNPak in 1974 and 1975. He had a successful 1974 season of racing. He became the first unlimited hydroplane driver to win seven High Point Races in a single season. Following the President's Cup that year, he and his team met with President Gerald Ford.Lexicon
