After graduating from Eatonville High School in 1954, Henley started his stellar boat racing career in 1955 racing outboards. His 20-year racing career was capped by winning back-to-back national championships while racing the famous PayNPak in 1974 and 1975. He had a successful 1974 season of racing. He became the first unlimited hydroplane driver to win seven High Point Races in a single season. Following the President's Cup that year, he and his team met with President Gerald Ford.
