Description

George Henley drives his Lincoln Thrift hydroplane, racing against Atlas Van Lines in the early 1970s. Henley began his successful 20-year racing career back in 1955, a year after he graduated from Eatonville High School. In 1974, Henley, racing PayNPak, became the first unlimited driver to win seven High Point races in one season, earning him driver of the year honors. He won national titles driving the PayNPak in both 1974 and 1975. Henley, who was nicknamed “Smiling George,” also won the prestigious Gold Cup in Seattle in 1974 and 1975.
