Tom Carstens, a Tacoma car dealer, rides a tiny motorcycle. Carstens was a motorsports enthusiast who sponsored a Midget (small versions of Indy cars) racing team and served as the first executive of the Northwest Region of the Sports Car Club of America. He was on the crew of the “City of Tacoma Special” car driven by Hal Cole to a sixth-place finish at the 1948 Indianapolis 500. Carstens drove in vintage car races in the 1970s. He attended Bellarmine Prep and the University of Puget Sound. He died in 1996 at the age of 83.Lexicon
