Pictured here are four baseball players who were standouts at Tacoma area high schools in the 1960s and all made it to the major leagues. Upper left is Rick Austin (Lakes HS, left-handed MLB pitcher with Cleveland and Milwaukee). Upper right is Billy Murphy (Clover Park HS, outfielder who reached the majors with the New York Mets). Lower left is Steve Whitaker (Lincoln HS, outfielder who played with the New York Yankees and Seattle Pilots). Lower right is Ron Cey (Mount Tahoma HS, longtime major league third baseman with the Dodgers and Cubs). Pictured here during the Vietnam war, the four were part of an Army reserves medic unit.
