Description

A 15-year-old Mike McMurtry poses for a photo of him shadow boxing. He was an outstanding boxer, winning a NCAA title in 1954 while boxing at Idaho State College. In an impressive amateur career, McMurtry lost only seven times in 214 bouts. After college, he joined the Marines and continued to win amateur fights. In his first professional bout in 1959 at Seattle's Sick's Stadium, he had a head injury and doctors found a blood clot in his brain, ending his career.
