Sid McLaughlin, 11 and Willie McLaughlin, 7, are pictured here playing for one of the local semi-professional teams that proliferated the area in the 1940s. The McLaughlins played at Clover Park High School, as did their more well-known brother, Harry, who was one of the best players of the era and went on to play on prolific semi-professional teams. Players would compete on these semi-pro teams following their college careers and would draw significant crows for high-level games in an era before the game could be seen on television and before the National Basketball Association would become a realistic destination for players like Harry McLaughlin.Lexicon
