Description

David Krussow of Tacoma gets his photo taken after winning the 1966 All-American Soap Box Derby's national championship in Akron, Ohio. Just two years early, Tacoma's Gregory Schumacher won the soap box derby's national championship, giving Washington two champs in three national finals. They are the only racers from Washington to win the national championship. Racers would reach speeds of about 25 miles per hour in a race that went down a sloped race track that went 1,150 feet. The track record is 26.3 seconds set by Tom Fisher of Detroit in 1940. The record at the current track is 28.2 seconds set in 2004."
