Description

Tacoma's David Krussow, sitting in the bottom car with The Tacoma News Tribune written on it, eagerly awaits the start of his race at the 1966 National Soap Box Derby championship in Akron, Ohio. Krussow got off to a fast start and won his race and ended up placing first in the national championship. Krussow is still just the second racer from Washington to win the national championship. One champion was named each year through 1975. Then in 1976, the junior division was created to attract younger drivers ages 10 to 12. In 1992, the stock car division was added and three national championships were awarded.
