Description

After winning the 1966 National Soap Box Derby championship, David Krussow celebrates with his mom and dad as David is presented with the winning trophy. After winning the race, Krussow's accomplishment was noted in Sports Illustrated's Faces In The Crowd. Krussow received a $7,500 college scholarship for winning. David and his dad worked on making their Soap Box Derby car, which had no motor and was driven by gravity. The fastest car to race at the Soap Box Derby nationals was clocked at 53 mph in 1977. Today, with a shorter hill, derby cars reach nearly 30 mph.
