Description

With his smiling mom holding roses and his gleeful dad by his side, David Krussow receives the trophy for winning the National Soap Box Derby championship in 1966 in Akron, Ohio. Krussow's wooden, homemade derby car powered by gravity, raced down a three-lane, 1,100 foot racetrack that had stadium seating and was built in 1936. The race would draw about 70,000 people during the 1950s and 1960s, the height of its popularity.
