Description

With his cheerful mom by his side, a smiling David Krussow waves to an applauding crowd at the award presentation after he won the 1966 National Soap Box Derby championship in Akron, Ohio, where qualifiers from across the country came to race. Attendance in the 1950s and 1960s was about 70,000 and that dropped to about 10,000 in 2015. About 500 kids ages 7 to 17 competed in the national race in 2015.
