Description

A 12-year-old David Krussow sits in his derby car and waves to the crowd after winning the 1966 National Soap Box Derby. The derby began in 1934 and draws qualifiers from across the country. For many years, the homemade soap box derby cars were made out of wood and beginning in the 1970s were made out of plastic and came in kits. Racers are required to make their own derby cars.
