Description

David Krussow takes the checkered flag and crosses the finish line first to win the National Soap Box Derby in 1966. The prestigious race began in 1933 when Myron Scott put together a soap box derby race for 19 boys in Dayton, Ohio. That same year in a repeat race it grew to 362 and it went on to be a national championship, drawing thousands of racers from across the country. The 1954 Soap Box Derby national winner, Denny Zimmerman of Hartford, Conn., went on to race in the Indianapolis 500 and was named the rookie of the year in 1971.
