Description

With a packed crowd cheering, a 12-year-old David Krussow crosses the finish line first to win the 1966 National Soap Box Derby, winning by the length of his homemade derby car. Each year about 320 local camps from across the counttry compete at nationals. The most states represented in a single year was 1966 when local champs from 46 states raced at nationals. Only four cities were repeat competitors in each of the first 75 races. They were Akron, Cleveland, Indianapolis and Anderson, Indiana. Champs from Akron to advance to nationals have won the national title 16 times, which is more than any other city.
