Description

In a moment to remember, a young David Krussow is presented with the championship plaque after winning the 1966 National Soap Box Derby. Qualifiers from across the country competed in this event and Krussow won, earning him a $7,500 college scholarship. In 1973, Jim Gronen of Boulder, Colorado, was disqualified after winning nationals when an inspection by officials found an illegal device in his homemade soap box derby car and disqualified him. It's the derby's most notorious case of cheating.
