Description

During their introduction prior to the 1966 Tacoma Soap Box Derby, drivers parade down the lanes at the race track which is still by Cheney Stadium near Fircrest. However, the event is no longer held. Racers from about 320 local races across the country competed to qualify for the national championship race at Akron, Ohio, that's held every July. During the 1950 and 1960s, the national championship race would draw 70,000 fans from across the country.
