Description

Tim McDonough, pictured holding his infant son in 1975, was an outstanding multi-sport athlete at Lincoln High School where he played baseball, football, track and field and basketball. McDonough was an All-City player, MVP and team captain in football, an All-City guard and co-captain in basketball and a second baseman and shortstop in baseball. He also competed in the Golden Gloves boxing tournament. McDonough earned a scholarship and played at the University of Puget Sound where he earned All-Conference honors for the Loggers and was selected to the All-Little Northwest team (he was 5-foot-9, 165 pounds). Sadly McDonough was diagnosed with cancer in September 1974 and died in April 1975, before he graduated from college at age 22. The South End Boys Club, Lincoln High and UPS present annual awards in McDonough’s honor. He was inducted into the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame in 2006. Photo donated by Marilyn Wetch.
