Bill Galyer sits in a race car at the Seattle race track on Sept. 7, 1941. It was tough drawing big crowds during the Depression, but a series of races in Seattle did that at the Seattle Civic Stadium where there was an oval dirt track for car racing. Races would draw up to 10,000 fans. Admission was only 10 cents. The track was only one-fifth-of-a-mile, which was short for the era.Lexicon
