Dick Colombini played both football and baseball at Lincoln High in Tacoma and at the University of Puget Sound (he previously played at Santa Clara before transferring to UPS). Colombini was named an All-City, All-Cross State and All-State halfback at Lincoln. He also was named all-league in baseball in high school and college. While at Puget Sound, Colombini set a school record with four touchdowns and 25 points in a 58-0 win over Eastern Washington. In 1951, Colombini, a guard for the University of San Francisco football team, joined his teammates and refused an invitation to play in the Orange Bowl in Florida after learning they would have to play without their two African-American players. A documentary, ’51 Dons, was released in 2014, telling the story of the team that was undefeated at the time. Colombini coached and taught at North Kitsap High School in Poulsbo from 1956-62 compiling a record of 38 wins, 15 losses and one tie and went on to become the principal at South Kitsap High School in Port Orchard and assistant superintendent. Colombini is also a member of the Tacoma-Pierce County Old-timers Baseball-Softball Association Hall of Fame (2003).Lexicon
