Description

Long-time Mount Rainier guide Lou Whittaker sets aiders while ice climbing. The aider steps are sometimes used when climbing steep walls. Whittaker made a career in the mountains helping climbers of all levels climb steep slopes and mountain peaks. He has said that early in his career few customers actually wanted to climb to the summit of Rainier. Today, the summit is the goal of most of the customers of Rainier Mountaineering Inc., a company Whittaker co-founded in 1969.
