Description

Gregory Schumacher works on the wheels of his soap box derby car that he drove at the National Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio, in 1964. Schumacher won the national championship that year. By winning the national championship, Schumacher won a $7,500 college scholarship. He was the first racer from Washington to win the national title. David Krussow, who is also from Tacoma, won it in 1966 to become the second.
