Description

In front of a packed crowd, a 14-year-old Greg Schumacher finishes first at the All-American Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio, in 1964 to become the first racer from Washington to win the national championship. It was a satisfying win for Schumacher, who was the runner-up at the Tacoma race the year before and did not qualify for nationals. Racers from across the country compete in two or three heats to determine a national champion in races held in Akron
