Description

A smiling Gregory Schumacher receives a trophy from an official after winning the 1964 All-American Soap Box Derby. There were about 70,000 fans there to watch the 14-year-old Schumacher win the national championship that earned him a $7,500 college scholarship. The soap box derby championships were first held in Akron, Ohio, in 1934. It is considered to be the greatest amateur racing event in the world and it spans nine decades.
