Description

After winning the 1964 All-American Soap Box Derby in Ohio, Schumacher received an autograph from a PGA golfer. That year William Smith of Mobile, Alabama, placed second behind Schumacher, Guy Cleckner of Mansfield, Ohio, placed third and Warren Rector of South Bend, Indiana, took fourth. In 1963 at the national championship, Joel Gorski of Tacoma placed ninth, giving Tacoma a top-10 finisher three times from 1963 to 1966. Tacoma no longer hosts a soap box derby race.
