Description

The 1951 Tacoma Gold Glove champions post for a group photo. Second on the left is Pete Rademacher and Pat McMurtry is third from the left. McMurtry boxed in the Tacoma's first Golden Gloves in 1949 and went on to become one of the top heavyweights in pro boxing during the 1950s. In 1958, McMurtry beat Canadian heavyweight champ George Chuvalo in the Madison Square Garden. Rademacher made boxing history when he fought for the world heavyweight title in his first professional fight and lost to Floyd Patterson. Rademacher qualified for the U.S. Olympic team and won a gold medal. He had 79 amateur fights, going 72-7.
