Description

Pat McMurtry (left) shakes hands with professional wrestler Andy Tremaine in this black-and-white photo taken in 1951. Tremaine was a professional wrestler and he was the Pacific Coast Junior Heavyweight champ for 94 days in 1951. When McMurtry graduated from Lincoln High School in 1949, he went to the University of Gonzaga on a wrestling scholarship, but that was interrupted when he joined the Marines in 1951 and went to fight in the Korean War. After he got out of the Marines, he turned pro in boxing in 1954 and began a successful boxing career that saw him rise to fifth in the world as a heavyweight. His boxing career ended in 1959 after suffering head injuries.
