Description

Andy Tremaine, a champion pro wrestler who is holding an award, was in Tacoma to wrestle at the Tacoma Armory in 1951. From left to right in the photo there's Jack Rutledge, who was the announcer; Pat McMurtry; Tremaine; Mike McMurtry and promoter Paavo Ketonen. Pat, “Irish,” McMurtry went on to become a professional boxer in 1954 and became a top-10 contender. His younger brother, Mike, had a successful amateur career, winning NCAA titles while boxing at the University of Gonzaga and Idaho State University. Mike's amateur record was 207-7. The two brothers were destined to be boxers. Their father, Clarence, told his wife when they were married that they were going to have two sons and they'd both box. Clarence's wish came true.
