The McMurtry family sits together at an awards banquet on April 13, 1953. From left to right, there's Burt McMurtry, Maude McMurtry and her two sons, Pat and Mike, and their dad, Clarence. Pat and Mike both had successful boxing careers and are considered to be two of the best boxers to come out of Tacoma. When Clarence was married, he told his wife they were going to have two sons who were going to be boxers. Clarence's dream came true. Mike fought in 214 amateur bouts and lost only seven times. Pat was ranked as high as fifth in the world as a professional heavyweight boxer in the 1950s. He won his first 16 pro fights and finished with a 33-4 record.Lexicon
