Pat McMurtry (left), Frankie “Chi Chi” Brit (middle) and Mike McMurtry (right) pose for a picture prior to a workout in 1953. Pat, who was 14 months older than his brother Mike, was in his last year as an amateur boxer. The McMurtry brothers were raised to box. Their father, Clarence, who fought as an amateur and sold Golden Rule bread door to door for 40 years, told his wife when they got married they were going to have two sons and both were going to box. They did just that. As kids, they frequently climbed into the ring and sparred before a main event in Tacoma. Both brothers had spectacular amateur careers. Pat's amateur record was 103-2 and Mike's was 207-7. Britt boxed professionally in the 1920s and coached the two brothers.Lexicon
