Description

Pat McMurtry receives a Hall of Fame plaque at this award ceremony in 1953 at the Tacoma Athletic Commissions headquarters. McMurtry, who was nichnamed “Irish,” was the ninth ranked heavyweight in the world in 1958 and was ranked as high as fifth. He had several fights with top contenders in his career, including Nino Valdes and Willie Pastrano. After his boxing career ended, he refereed boxing matches for 29 years. In the photo with McMurtry are his brother, Mike, and his father, Clarence, who were all involved in boxing.
