Description

The Tacoma Speedway was a 2-mile, oval wooden board track for car racing from 1914 to 1922. In its heyday, the track was renowned nationwide and was second only to the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Top-named drivers of the time came to race at the Tacoma Speedway. Barney Oldfield was among the famous drivers who raced in Tacoma. Drivers would reach speeds of 103 mph, which was faster than speeds reached at Indianapolis 500. The race track, which is now where Clover Park Technical College is, was a popular place for fans to come and watch.
