In preparation for his next fight in 1954, Pat McMurtry jumps rope the year he turned pro. After a successful amateur career when he went 103-2, McMurtry turned pro in 1954 and fought professionally until 1959 and was ranked as high as fifth in the world. He fought twice in the summer of 1956 in Tacoma's Lincoln Bowl, drawing crowds of 10,729 and 11.095. McMurtry was probably the biggest sports celebrity in the Northwest during this time. When his career as a fighter ended in 1959, he was refereed fights for 29 years, continuing his commitment to the sport.Lexicon
