Description

Pat McMurtry takes a drink from his trainer Homer Amundsen during a fight at the Roxy Theater in 1954. McMurtry was in his first year as a pro fighter and he would become the fifth ranked heavyweight in the world and a top contender by the late 1950s. He'd become the Northwest's most popular sports star. McMurtry called Amundesen the best teacher he had ever known and credited him for his success in the boxing ring. McMurtry's fight in this photo was prior to a movie at Roxy Theater that starred Robert Ryan, Kirk Douglas and Jan Sterling.
