Description

Mike and Pat McMurtry spar at the Police Athletic Gym in Tacoma in 1954 The two brothers were both successful boxers and they were destined to box. When their father, Clarence McCurtry, got married he told his wife they were going to have two sons and they were going to box. He gave his sons boxing gloves for Christmas presents when they were young. They'd sometimes spar as kids prior to main boxing events in Tacoma and appreciative fans would throw money that their dad would use to buy boxing equipment. Pat was a top-ranked heavyweight professional boxer in the 1950s and Mike had a successful 12-year amateur career, compiling a 207-7 record. Pat had a 33-4-1 pro record with 25 knockouts.
