Tacoma's Pat McMurtry playfully pokes a young boy in the chest as McMurtry gets ready for a workout in a local gym. By the late 1950s, McMurtry was one of the top sports figures in the Northwest as he fought on national TV and was ranked as high as fifth in the world. After winning 103 of his 105 fights as an amateur, McMurtry turned pro in 1954 and went 33-4-1, which included a win against former heavyweight champ and future hall of famer Ezzard Charles.
