Description

Pat McMurtry is ready to go on the attack after knocking Bill Boatman to the canvas in a professional heavyweight fight back in 1954 at the Tacoma Armory. Referee Davey Ward waits for Boatman to get up to his feet. McMurtry, who was in his first year as a pro fighter, won the fight and continued his climb to contention. In a few years, McMurtry's father, Clarence McMurtry, who was his son's manager, turned down an offer to fight heavyweight champ Floyd Patterson. It was a decision Pat would regret.
