Pat McMurtry was seemingly born to box. In 1955 the boxer weighed 183 pounds. His father, Clarence, who was an amateur fighter, told his wife when they were married that they were going to have two sons and both were going to box. Clarence's wish came true. Pat and his younger brother, Mike, are considered to be two of the best fighters to come out of Tacoma. Pat had a 103-2 record as an amateur boxer and 33-4-1 with 25 knockouts as a pro. He was a heavyweight contender during the late 1950s and was ranked as high as fifth in the world.Lexicon
