Description

Tacoma's Pat McMurtry exchanges some heavy punches with Bob Albright of California in a heavyweight bout in Seattle back in 1955. It was the first of two meetings between these two heavyweight contenders. Albright began his pro career with an impressive 17-1-1 record during 1953-54 and then he stepped up his fights and boxed Ezzard Charles, Archie Moore and McMurtry. It was McMurtry's second year as a professional boxer. He had hoped to turn pro when he was 21 years old. But the Korean War broke out and he joined the Marines instead, delaying his pro boxing career by about four years. He turned pro in 1954. McMurtry's first fight with Albright was stopped in the eigth round and it was ruled a draw. Then in October 1959 in McMurtry's second-to-last fight of his career, he defeated Albright by a fifth-round technical knockout.
