Description

In Seattle back in 1955, Pat McMurtry fought California's “Big” Bob Albright in a contentious heavyweight fight. Like McMurtry, Albright was a heavyweight contender and was heavyweight champ in California and had fought and lost to big-name fighters like Ezzard Charles and Archie Moore. McMurtry turned pro in 1954 after serving in the Marines during the Korean War and he knew this fight with Albright would be his biggest challenge. The fight ended up as a draw when it was stopped in the eighth round as McMurtry broke his hand in the third round. In a rematch in 1959, a hard-punching McMurtry defeated Albright by a fifth-round technical knockout.
