In 1955, Tacoma's Pat McMurtry fought California's Bob Albright in Seattle. The physical and bloody fight ended in an eight-round draw. The two heavyweight contenders would meet again in 1959 and McMurtry landed an overhand right to Albright's nose and followed with a series of left jabs, bloodying Albright's face. Between rounds, the rings physican said Albright's nose was broken and the fight was stopped in the fifth round and McMurtry won by a technical knockout. Two weeks later, McMurtry returned for what would be his last fight – a rugged, punch-throwing bout with Eddie Machen in Portland. Knocked down three times in the first round, McMurtry lost by a knockout. Doctors after the fight said McMurtry had some brain damage and that would effect his balance for life.Lexicon
