Description

In this 1955 battle in Seattle, Pat McMurtry goes toe-to-toe with California's “Big” Bob Albright in the first of two fights between these two heavyweight contenders. The fight was stopped in the eighth round and was ruled a draw after McMurtry broke his hand in the third round. It was McMurtry's only draw of his pro career. After the fight, McMurtry went to the hospital and X-rays showed damage to a bone in his hand and he sat out for six months, resting up. After he recovered from his hand injury, McMurtry got back in the ring six months later and picked up four knockouts in a row. In 1959, McMurtry had a rematch with Albright and won by a fifth-round technical knockout after breaking Albright's nose.
